Naramata, BC
"Smile of Manitou"
Naramata is a local's favourite spot; a quaint, tiny village north of Penticton that has captured the hearts of many. There is no gas station, a few essential businesses, a gorgeous setting, and a history that is worth sharing. In 1906 a European settler by the name of John Moore Robinson purchased the land the community now sits on. Rumour has it that Robinson's business partner was married to a spiritual medium and minister of the American Spiritualistic Church. A group of prominent townspeople gathered for a seance (yes, you read that right), and Minister Gillespie invoked the spirit of an Indigenous Chief who spoke of his wife Narramattah which means "smile of Manitou"
