Okanagan Falls, BC
Referred to by locals OK Falls, this is a small community on the southern shores of Skaha Lake 20km south of the larger centre of Penticton. The name comes from the double waterfall that used to exist before Europeans who settled in the area built a dam to control the flow into the Okanagan River. Traditionally, the location of the falls was an important salmon fishing location and trade route for the Okanagan People before European settlement. Today it is an up-and-coming tourist destination with warm, sandy beaches, lots of hiking, biking, camping, bird watching, ice cream eating, and you can even rent fishing poles from the visitor information centre!
